Facebook abuse of my 11 year old daughter

My daughter is 11 years old and does not use Facebook. Someone snapped a picture of her at a public event and then proceeded to post it on their wall and make negative comments about her. Of course, others joined in and there are now multiple comments. Is this considered bullying? How can we stop this? What rights do we have?

First off I wanted to say I'm very sorry this is such a horrible thing for a young girl to go through. I have not looked at the picture but depending on a few things who took the picture and when/where it was taken are all things that affect your rights. Depending if the photograph was taken at school, at someone else's house this will change what you have the ability to do about this. I'm on shaky ground here but I believe if the person who took the photograph knew your daughter from school this also makes a difference. Can anyone verify this? Anyways, best of luck getting through this.

Yes it is and should be reported to Facebook. Screenshot the post and send it to the abuse center.

gtojohnny, I'm so sorry to hear this. This FAQ on Facebook explains how to report the picture. (Be sure to use the form for pictures of kids under 13.) If the picture is not removed within 5 days, please send me an email at admin@connectsafely.org and I'll try to help further.

Best,
Maureen
