Deleting a Facebook Account as a Parent

My son's underage child created a facebook page, against his parents rules, while at a friends house. She only discovered this when the account was "suspended" with a message that he was not who he claimed to be in an email that he did not delete.

With the suspended account, and an inability to access the email he originally signed up with, he has been unable to have the page removed. She has tried contacting facebook through various avenues only to be told that she does not have the ability to have the page or information removed because she is not the user (and that is when she can actually find information on this topic).

Is this true? Do parents not have the right or a method to contact anyone to have this information taken down?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. He has obviously proven why he was not permitted to have access to facebook in the first place.

Hi BIBRWIW, You or his parents can submit the report -this FAQ gives more info and includes a link to the form: ttp://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=157793540954833.

Give FB a few days to delete his account. If it's not deleted, let me know and we'll try to provide additional help.

Best,
Maureen

Thanks Maureen,

Actually he is only 11 and knew full well he could NOT have the account until he was 13 and he was educated on the reasons why. I did forward off the handbook to his parents. Unfortunately, we have been unable to find a way to contact anyone to let them know he is only 11 and to have the account and facebook page removed.

Any advice?
Maureen

That's right - kids 13 and older are considered authorized account holders. (I'm assuming your grandson is 13 and older; if not, a parent can cancel the account.)

If he's over 13, your grandson is the only one who can cancel the account if it's still active.

Have you taken a look at our Parents' Guide to Facebook? (Find it at www.fbparents.org.) It has some great information for adults who want to discuss FB w/ the kids in their life.

Best,
Maureen
