Children and internet?

I have been reading through these threads and I am completely in shock at what I see. A majority of the people here are parents who are concerned about their kids being on the internet and seeing/hearing something they shouldn't.

To be honest, if thats the case you have no one to blame but yourself. Your an adult, YOU pay the bills, YOU have the power to turn on parental controls, and if need be turn off the source.

I was 8 when my mother started letting me use a computer, but my mother was protective. Even though back then the internet was new and there weren't sites like IMVU and red light distract. I was 17 when I started playing around with cyber sex....but by then I was living on my own and didn't have the constraints of password protected computers.

There are so many ways to block sites now that I dont see why you all are posting complaints against sites.

Gaiaonline- pm cybering, threads full of foul language
IMVU - cybering, 3d sex
Red light center - 3d sex site
Literotica- stories, pictures, movies...the works
Only movies- porn site

I mean if your so worried about these sort of sites affecting your kids....

DONT LET THEM ON THE INTERNET, OR PUT ON PARENTAL CONTROLS...

I swear, if I caught my child on a site like that ID BEAT HIS BUTT<----

I feel no sympathy for anyone who lets little kids on the internet without setting rules...it doesnt make sense...dont make people that do enjoy those sites (yes I am a member of IMVU and gaia but I use them to get in contact with my friends)suffer.

I think this would be the best option if you really have a stubborn child. But if your child will insist his/her desire to explore on Porn Site, you can't stop them even if you have cut your internet connection. Internet Cafe are rampant now; youngster's are very much welcome in this place. As it would mean good profit t their business.

The most acceptable solution is still on the parents. On how they train and inculcate the right manners to their children.

I have a 13 year old sister and I feel she has more freedom to do what she wants online because my parents are older and not as familiar with technology. I believe they are doing the best they can but I am 32 and she was a surprise. They didn't have to worry about technology when me and my siblings were growing up. I have tried to keep an eye on her and to educate them on ways they can "keep watch". I even created a website to help other parents keep their kids safe online. www.keepkidssafeontheinternet.com. I agree that it is our responsibility to keep our kids safe but I know some parents don't have the skills it takes to do so. I also do not feel like a lot of parents understand how dangerous the internet can be for our kids.

From my opinion, you should have a control on your children's computer.Otherwise there may be a chance of misusing. So take care your children along with their computer and avoid the risk.

You have to remember it is always easier to point the finger at something that can't defend itself then to point the finger at oneself and say this is my fault.

Though I'm kind of hurt about what you said about IMVU... it isn't all about cyber sex, it is all based on the user, and is not very nice to generalize things. I use IMVU a lot, and yes there are users that do cyber, but not all of us do.

I mean if you are going to compile a list, might I add a few more things that people should stay away from...

Email - Naked Pics, Naughty Messages
Cell Phones - Same as Email, some even do video.
Instant Messaging Software - See Email
